About this lecture

What is the role of a doctor • The ever-growing tsunami of chronic disease • The limits of medicine ... 'Medicine can only cure curable diseases and then not always' (Chinese saying) • How yangsheng (health education) has always been the foundation of Chinese medicine • The importance of establishing the causes of disease • The four legs of the chair of health maintenance - emotions, diet, exercise and sleep

Drawing from my book Live Well Live Long: Teachings from the Chinese Nourishment of Life Tradition, which recounts both traditional Chinese health wisdom and the findings of modern research, this lecture is aimed at informing and inspiring practitioners to take up the role of educating patients. While it discusses emotional cultivation, diet, exercise and sleep as the four legs of the yangsheng chair, please note that the discussion of emotions is brief since it is covered in detail in the sister lecture 'Cultivating the mind and emotions for self and practitioner cultivation'
